One of our favorite summer activities is right around the corner in early June, and we cannot wait! The summer berry season is just about to start. If your kids are anything like mine, they keep asking when we can grab our buckets and get out to our local berry farm to start picking! Our area has many options for pick-your-own strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and more, as well as pre-picked, too.
For our full farm directory, which links many more local farms with seasonal events and activities, check out our Local Farm Guide!

When are all the berries ready for picking?
Strawberries are the first to pop, usually in early June and lasting for several weeks. Red raspberries come in next in mid-June. Black raspberries follow towards the end of June and into early July. Finally, the berry season ends with blueberries ripening at the end of June and continuing throughout July.
That’s a lot of berries and tons of summer fun!

What do you need to pick berries?
Most pick-your-own berry patches ask you to bring your own containers, so plan accordingly. My kids like to each have their own bucket (think sand pail or basket with handle) and I bring my own container too. Many are also cash only, so make sure your wallet is ready. Berry patches are usually wide open with little to no shade, so lots of sunscreen or long sleeves and a nice sun hat will do the trick so you don’t end up as red as a strawberry!
