Earth Day Origins

Every year on April 22, we celebrate Earth Day, a holiday which was started in 1970 as an American-led environmental initiative that became a global phenomenon in 1990. Prior to Earth Day’s conception, there was much environmental turmoil in our country and internationally; huge, gas-guzzling cars, dirty industrial practices, and many other factors led to much pollution and environmental damage. Instituted by politicians and activists alike, Earth Day was the catalyst for the creation of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and many other much needed changes in the way people interacted with our earth and all its great resources.
