McBride Memorial Library

From the McBride Memorial Library’s website:

“The library was founded in 1885, but the new “The McBride Memorial Library” opened on January 7, 2008.  Since then, the library has continued to grow to meet the needs of the community. The library currently offer children’s storytimes, playtimes and STEM programs, art programs, reading programs, homeschool resources, beginning computer classes for adults, print, fax, and scan services, 3-D printing, 10 free annual community parties, room rentals, free wifi, a beautiful library garden open to the public, two librarians with Master’s degrees in Library Science, and two floors of multimedia materials. A generous donation from Nicholas Miller in 2018 added over 8,000 movies and tv shows has helped to bring many new patrons into the library and we continue to grow our well-curated collection of books, periodicals, ebooks, audiobooks, movies, tv shows, games, databases, and even puzzles. We also continue to offer our Books on Wheels service as well as a mobile STEM van which brings STEM activities and books to kids in Briar Creek Borough. We host meetings and activities for many clubs and organizations such as the Susquehanna Valley Reading Partners, 20th Century Delphians, Paranormal Club, Movie Discussion Club, Grief Support Group, SUNCOM, Headstart, New Story, and more.”

As an example of programming, in September 2020 the library had the following available:  A curriculum center, study hall time, a writing center, lots of puzzles and non-electronic games for small children, a number of computers for older children to play educational games, a free fall reading program where every child receives the Chronicles of Narnia and at home activities to go along with the book, and a make your own scarecrow competition.  It truly is a great library for children!
